If You Need A Good Reason to Party
Need something to do tonight before the Like You Like It concert (or tomorrow night or Friday night)? Check out a pop-up gallery featuring work by gonzo artist Ralph Steadman at Red Bull Studios in Chelsea.
The exhibit accompanies the artist's upcoming film For No Good Reason, (in theaters 4/25). Joined by long-term friend Johnny Depp, the film explores Steadman as he finds his voice through his art, driven by a sense of duty to change the world into a better place. Working with the artist over 10 years and gathering his prolific output into a single film was a monstrous task. This exhibition, like the film, omits more art than it includes. Steadman is now in his 70’s and continues to work daily.
It will be open today 4/23 from 4-8pm, and tomorrow 4/24 and Friday 4/25 from 12-7 pm. There will be a free premiere after-party accompanying the movie premiere on Friday, 4/25 8 pm at Red Bull Studios New York (220 West 18th Street). You must RSVP to attend the after-party and can do so here.

Increase Your Cultural Heart Rate at The Pulse Party
Need something to do tonight? The Rubin Museum of Art is throwing a pretty awesome party featuring electronic music and multimedia from 6-11pm.
In traditional Tibetan medicine, pulse reading is a complex form of diagnosis which requires physicians to listen deeply to the sound waves and vibrations of one’s heartbeat. In collaboration with Warper Party, the Rubin Museum presents PULSE, a museum-wide multimedia event that invites electronic musicians and video artists to listen deeply and explore their own beats through inspiration from the new exhibition, Bodies in Balance: The Art of Tibetan Medicine.
There will be a happy hour from 6-7pm with 2-for-1 specials on all beer, wine, and well drinks. Also there will be a combination of free and ticketed events throughout the night (see the full schedule here), including a free tour of the new exhibition and tunes mixed by several DJs.

AWESOME ALERT: Free Donuts from Holey Donuts
I hear about a lot of openings in the city, but it's not often that one really stands out to me. Holey Donuts is opening their first store in Chelsea (101 7th Ave at 16th Street) in May and they want you to be among the first to check them out.
Holey Donuts claim to fame is "great tasting donuts without the fat, calories and guilt." While I have yet to try their goodies, this sounds like a great idea to me!
They are inviting all those in the know to stop by Thursday-Saturday May 1-3 to be treated to a VIP experience. You will be privy to a free box of donuts (filled and frosted as you watch!), gifts and their special reusable tote bag (seen above). Just picture yourself making everyone on the subway salivate by your carryall!
To be invited, you must email info@holeydonuts.net and choose the one day and time best for you to attend (put it in the subject line or they won't respond):
Once confirmed, you will be allowed to bring guests, however, each ticket will allow only one gift bag and free box of donuts.

One of my favorite days of the year is the day when the most elegant of cookies, the macaron, are given away en masse throughout the city. And guess what? (your day is about to get amazing..................)....................FREE MACARON DAY IS TODAY!
There are 15 participating locations in NYC (Gothamist has a helpful Google map if you want to try and get to all of them), and since I work in Midtown East I'll most likely hit up the Bernardaud store for MadMac macarons, FP Patisserie, and Macaron Cafe. All proceeds from further macaron sale will go to City Harvest.

AWESOME GIVEAWAY: Happy Pancake Day! FREE Nutella!
Today, March 4, is pancake day! Hooray! Our friends at Nutella want you to spread the happy, and we of course want you to spread the awesome, sooooooo check out these awesome ricotta pancakes with Nutella and warm strawberry sauce I whipped up to celebrate my boyfriend and my anniversary this weekend (the heart was his idea--cue the awwwww!).
Here's the recipe:
Ricotta Pancakes with Nutella Hazelnut Spread & Warm Strawberry Sauce
- 1 cup low fat ricotta
- 1/2 cup reduced fat milk (I used almond milk)
- 3 eggs, whites and yolks separated
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- pinch of salt
- oil spray
- 7 oz. strawberries, hulled & thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp Nutella per pancake
PANCAKES: Put the ricotta, egg yolks and milk into a bowl and mix well. Sift in the flour, baking powder and salt and combine until you have a smooth batter. Place the egg whites in a clean bowl and beat until soft peaks form and then gently fold into the ricotta mixture.
Spray a large non-stick pan with oil and drop in 2 tablespoons of batter per pancake. Cook for about one minute until golden and then flip over and cook for another minute. Remove from pan and keep in warm over until ready to serve.
STRAWBERRY SAUCE: Combine the strawberries and sugar in a small saucepan and gently heat for 3-4 minute until syrupy. When ready to serve, spread 2 teaspoons of Nutella onto each pancake and top with the strawberry sauce.
Awesome news! Nutella is giving one special reader 2 jars of Nutella to make your own pancakes, spread over toast, or just eat by the spoonful. To enter, fill out the form below by Thursday 3/6. Make sure to actually leave a comment below telling me your favorite way to use Nutella or you will be disqualified. A winner will be chosen and notified by Friday 3/7. Best of luck!
a Rafflecopter giveaway
Disclosure: I was not compensated by Nutella, but did receive 2 jars of my own to create the pancakes in this post.

Sweat Through the Weekend
Put away the silk shirts and stilettos and take out something you can sweat in! Two events are happening this weekend that will give you so much more than a plain ole workout (or for that matter, sitting on the couch eating your recently acquired Girl Scout Cookies) can.
Sweaty Saturday
Sweaty Saturday
"Get fit. Give back." is the motto for Sweaty Saturday, a second-year collaboration among close to 50 NYC fitness studios and Partnership for a Healthier America, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending childhood obesity. Studios including Barry's Bootcamp, Alycea Ungaro's Real Pilates, Cyc, Pure Barre, and SLT will be offering different classes throughout the day with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the cause.
Well + Good's Sweat Series
Speaking of Barry's Bootcamp, Well + Good is kicking off their Sweat Series this Sunday at Athleta Flatiron (126 Fifth Avenue, at W. 18th Street) with a free Barry's Bootcamp class with instructor Layla Luciano. Doors open at 9am for the 9:30-10:30 class, but it's limited to 30 people so get there early! The event will feature free post-workout treats from Drink Mercy elixirs and one attendee will win a $100 gift card to Athleta. Future events will feature BariMacro, Power Yoga and Barre3.

Awesome Works Out Again! (Bonus: FREE CLASSES)
Fitness has lately become a well-documented thing on this blog, but I'm keeping the endorphins flowing with yet another class recommendation!
I came across Cyc Fitness a few weeks ago in an email newsletter (check out Well + Good for all things healthy living in NYC if you haven't already!). Cyc is a Madison, WI spin studio transplant that recently opened up shop within the David Barton Gym at Astor Place. It's similar to your Soul Cycle or Flywheel in that it offers a full body workout using 2 lb bean bags while you are spinning. But I found it unique in that the workout incorporates various other "sports," like swimming and basketball to name a couple, to get you having fun while working out.
Cyc calls its instructors cycologists, a clever play on words, but also relatively true in that the instructors seem to get to know you throughout the class, always encouraging you to do better and push harder. I had Amber as my cycologist, and would highly recommend her high-energy class! The rest of the staff at Cyc was wonderful as well, helping me set-up my bike (much fancier than any spin bike I've ever ridden!) and answering any questions.
It's both a blessing and a curse that Cyc is located within a well-established gym. Blessing because you get open access to the entire gym up to 2 hours before and after your class and you have access to a full locker room (bring your own locks!) with showers, towels, etc. However, you will have to deal with the crowds that come with a giant gym, and if you've never been inside, well, David Barton Gyms have a certain vibe that is fairly club-like and in-your-face. So if that's not your thing, be warned.
Classes are normally $25 (shoe rental $2), but you can take advantage of their awesome snow day offer to score a free class! If it snows more than 2 inches, all classes are free the next day. This promo goes through March 17. Also, it doesn't appear that they are being too strict with this policy, as I know it hasn't snowed that much in the past day, but you can book the 7am, 12:30pm, and 5pm classes for free tomorrow 2/19 (5pm with Cyc founder Keoni!). Hurry up! There are limited spaces available. Sign up here!

Free Fitness Party at the 92Y
When I used to live on the Upper East Side, I belonged to the May Center at the 92Y and I would recommend that gym to anyone. It was always clean, the locker rooms are relaxing, and I never had to wait for a machine. The best time to join is when they have their annual open house, which is--good news!--happening this Tuesday 2/11 from 5-10pm.
The event will feature drop-in classes like yoga, spinning and splash dance (dancing in a pool?! how cool!) as well as a wheel of fitness where you can win guest passes, fitness prizes and free services. If you are interested in joining, you can sign up for as little as $69, which any Manhattanite knows is a steal of a gym membership.

Free Cheese...FREE CHEESE!!
Life without cheese just wouldn't be life. I should really frame that quotation and hang it in kitchen. Anyway, don't you agree though?
One of my favorite cheese stores in the city, Murray's Cheese, is celebrating the opening of their 100th nationwide store by giving away free delectable creamy goodness in the form of grilled cheese sandwiches to the first 100 people who visit their flagship West Village store (254 Bleecker Street) on Saturday February 1 starting at 11 am. Their website says they will have other snacks to nosh on and beer will be poured.
In addition, Murray's is hosting a contest to win one of 10 $100 shopping spree in their store. You can enter here. So who's ready to get their cheese on?

When All You Want Is A Doughnut...Or Ten

I just found out about this awesome sounding doughnut party happening TONIGHT at Project No. 8 at the Ace Hotel. It's to celebrate the launch of All You Can Eat Now's New York Doughnut Map and to celebrate National Doughnut Month (frankly that should be every month). They will have donuts from Peter Pan, Dough, Doughnut Plant, Pies-n-Thighs, Dun-Well, and Van Leeuwen with Stumptown Coffee and drinks from Caledonia Spirits and Winery. It all goes down from 6-8, get excited!

Fashion's Clean Night Out
Fashion's Night Out has become an annual event I always look forward to. I've mapped out my itinerary using their handy website (braid bar at Alice + Olivia and giveaways at Mulberry!) and I've rounded up a group of girlfriends. I've also picked out my most fashionable outfit so as not to stick out like a sore thumb.
The thing is, with all that free Champagne and those passed hors d'oeuvres, something is bound to get spilled on my new silk dress. And with all those hoards of people, my strong-enough-for-a-man-but-made-for-a-woman deodorant probably will reach it's breaking point. So what's a girl to do?
In addition to all the freebies you can pick up around town, one of my favorite dry cleaners in the city, Meurice Garment Care, has decided to participate as well by offering to dry clean one item that you wear tonight for free. Honestly, it's one of the more practical giveaways I've seen and it's very easy to claim. Just follow Meurice on Facebook and post a photo of yourself on their wall at any of tonight's events. You could also submit your photo on Twitter.
Either way, the item will be cleaned for free at any of their locations but the offer applies only to items that can be dry-cleaned or laundered. So, skirts, jackets, dresses and other garments qualify. Handbags, shoes, hats, etc., do not. Exceptionally intricate garments are not eligible. Only one cleaning is allowed per household and the last day to post your photo is September 14.
