There's something about Off-Broadway theaters I love. Whether it be the intimate setting, the encouragement of success swirling about, or the mere opportunity to be able to see a show not many others get to see, Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway theaters produce some of the best shows around.
The York Theatre Company is one of my favorites. Boasting 175 seats and having produced hits like Yank! in 2010 and Sweeney Todd, it serves the community well by offering $20 tickets to all shows for both students and seniors. The latest mainstage production is a revival of 1989's Closer Than Ever, an intimate musical about love, friendship, security, happiness – and holding onto those essentials in a world that pulls us in a hundred directions at once. The musical promises to be a refreshing treat for audiences, old and new, filled with insights you’ve never heard expressed, except in your own heart. The limited engagement starts June 5.

I've never been to an Off-Broadway show. I'd love the opportunity to check out and discover a show before it gets all hyped up, especially when it's in a more intimate setting and tickets are affordable.

I just saw 2ST's production of Lonely, I'm Not off-Broadway last week and it was a great experience. I'd say I enjoyed it better than some Broadway plays I've seen.

I loved seeing STOMP off-Broadway...it was especially entertaining when a dancer lost his grip on a garbage can lid that flew into the first row! (oops!)
ReplyDeleteI follow you on Twitter. Avenue Q is my favorite Off-Broadway show - it's funny and everyone can relate to it one way or another
