AWESOME GIVEAWAY: 2 Tickets to Orphans on Broadway

Hold onto your hats. Broadway is getting dark and twisty this Spring. In the new Broadway show Orphans, two orphaned brothers live in their decrepit North Philadelphia row house. They survive by petty thievery and a steady diet of tuna fish and daytime television until the violent older brother decides to kidnap Harold (Alec Baldwin, yes THE Alec Baldwin), a notorious Chicago gangster. Harold soon becomes the force that will forever change their lives.

Written by Lyle Kessler and directed by Daniel Sullivan (Glengarry Glen Ross), Orphans features a critically acclaimed cast including Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma, The Mechanic, and Flash Forward if you can remember that far back) and Tom Sturridge (Being Julia, Like Minds, The Boat That Rocked, and On the Road).

The show features a book by Doug Wright (Pulitzer Prize winner, I Am My Own Wife), lyrics by Amanda  Green (Bring It On: The Musical), and music by Trey Anastasio (Phish) and Amanda Green. Directed by Neil Pepe (Speed-The-Plow) with musical staging by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis), it is based on the acclaimed 1997 documentary of the same name by S.R. Bindler, produced by Kevin Morris and Bindler.

AWESOME GIVEAWAY: 2 Tickets to Hands on a Hardbody on Broadway

How far would you go for the American dream? In the new musical Hands on a Hardbody, ten Texans test their endurance and stamina in the hot sun by seeing who can keep at least one hand on a brand new truck for the longest in order to win it. I admit, the plot line sounds a bit thin, but it's based off true events and I'm most curious to see how they've managed to turn this story into an entire musical.

AWESOME GIVEAWAY: 2 Tickets to Chaplin the Musical

If there's one man who invented and then re-invented the movie business, it was the late, great Charlie Chaplin. His most well known character, the Little Tramp, has warmed his way into many a family's memories and hearts, but the little-known story behind the character is perhaps more intriguing, and ultimately more heartwarming than I ever could have thought.

The new show Chaplin: The Musical stars Rob McClure as the legendary silent film star and features a book by three-time Tony Award® winner Thomas Meehan (Hairspray, The Producers, Annie) and Christopher Curtis, and music and lyrics by Christopher Curtis. Everything from the costumes and make-up, to the set and the brilliant choreography contributes to one of the best new musicals I've seen in a while. The show had such an effect on me that when the curtain fell, I immediately went and added at least 10 Chaplin movies to my Netflix queue.

All my readers are in luck! I'm giving away a pair of tickets to Chaplin: The Musical! There are 4 easy ways to win, and each comment counts as an entry. Be sure to leave your email in each comment so that I can contact you if you are the winner.

AWESOME GIVEAWAY: 2 Tickets to Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Before you get too excited, I must tell you Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is a doozy of a show. At 3 hours long with not one but two intermissions, it basically details a family in decline, touching on infidelity and insanity all at the same time. The show stars Tony Award® and Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts (of August: Osage County fame) and Tony® nominee Amy Morton as America's infamous sparring couple, George and Martha, in the Steppenwolf production. Directed by Tony® nominee Pam Mackinnon (Clybourne Park)—Virginia Woolf celebrates its 50th Broadway anniversary with a spectacularly moving performance that will pretty much make you question every relationship you've ever encountered, insightfully of course.

AWESOME GIVEAWAY: 2 Tickets to Closer than Ever

There's something about Off-Broadway theaters I love. Whether it be the intimate setting, the encouragement of success swirling about, or the mere opportunity to be able to see a show not many others get to see, Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway theaters produce some of the best shows around.

The York Theatre Company is one of my favorites. Boasting 175 seats and having produced hits like Yank! in 2010 and Sweeney Todd, it serves the community well by offering $20 tickets to all shows for both students and seniors. The latest mainstage production is a revival of 1989's Closer Than Ever, an intimate musical about love, friendship, security, happiness – and holding onto those essentials in a world that pulls us in a hundred directions at once. The musical promises to be a refreshing treat for audiences, old and new, filled with insights you’ve never heard expressed, except in your own heart. The limited engagement starts June 5.

AWESOME GIVEAWAY: 2 Tickets to 2 Off-Broadway Shows

So you say it's been a little while since I ran a ticket giveaway, well that's about to change. Jules plays at the Laurie Beechman Theatre (407 West 42nd Street) and tells the story of Broadway's most famous vaudeville and film star: female impersonator Julian Eltinge. The year is 1941 and the place is a dressing room at Billy Rose's club in Manhattan during the star's the final performance. (Save $5 on the price of your ticket here and use code TETCJ512).

Tennessee Williams' final full-length play In Masks Outrageous and Austere explores the surreal, the nefarious, and the erotic in ways never before attempted. The richest woman in the world, her gay husband, and his young lover are thrust into a mystery world, defined by disorientation and paranoia, where they are held captive by omnipotent corporate forces. A cast of bizarre characters enters an increasingly threatening environment, and tensions reach a fever pitch as trust among the three protagonists begins to disintegrate. Playing at The Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street) through May 13, this one is sure to make you think.

AWESOME GIVEAWAY: The Seven Stars Cookbook

By now I'm sure you're all familiar with the Total Rewards program I've been blogging and tweeting about of late. I've explored the entertainment side of things by posting about the epic Diddy/Mariah Carey concert I was able to go too, but Caesar's is partnered with lots of celebrity chefs, many of whom actually have restaurants in NYC as well (more on that in future posts). To whet everyone's appetites a bit, I'm holding a giveaway!

The Seven Stars Cookbook is a compilation of recipes from chefs associated with the Caesar's brand. And let me tell you, there's some gooooooooooood stuff in there! Ever wanted to make cheese biscuits a la Paula Deen? What about blue corn-crusted red snapper like Bobby Flay? I definitely want to try the chocolate coconut cake recipe by Francois Payard - yum! In addition to all the wonderful recipes, it's a beautiful book full of colorful photos.

So who feels like being adventurous in the kitchen? Who wants to try something new! I'm giving away one cookbook and there are 5 easy ways to win and each comment counts as an entry. Please include your email in any and all comments so I know how to contact you if you are the winner.

1) REQUIRED - Follow this blog by clicking on the button on the right panel and leave a comment below letting me know you did so.

2) REQUIRED - Click on this link and register for Total Rewards and leave a comment letting me know you did so.

AWESOME GIVEAWAY: 2 Tickets to Just Sex

Despite the name in the title of this post, I can assure you that Just Sex does not take place at a gentleman's club. It's an off-Broadway play that tells the story of a married couple, Katherine and William, and their exploration of extramarital escapades which lead to some interesting circumstances. This limited engagement at the Theater for the New City (155 1st Ave) follows up from a sold-out run at last year's Dream Up Festival.

All my readers are in luck! I'm giving away a pair of tickets to see Just Sex! There are 5 easy ways to win and each comment counts as an entry, so you can comment up to 5 times. Please include your email in any and all comments so I know how to contact you if you are the winner.

AWESOME GIVEAWAY: 4 Tickets to Clybourne Park

The Spring 2012 Broadway season is in full swing with several new shows in previews anticipating April openings. One I'm particularly excited about is the Pulitzer Prize and Olivier Award winning Clybourne Park. Opening April 19, the play explores the concepts of race, realty and the volatile values of each. Despite the somewhat heavy nature of the story, Clybourne Park is said to be uproariously funny and brilliantly acted.

All my readers are in luck! I'm giving away 2 pairs of tickets to see Clybourne Park on Broadway! The tickets must be picked up at the box office the day of the show. There are 5 easy ways to win and each comment counts as an entry. Please include your email in any and all comments so I know how to contact you if you are the winner.

1) REQUIRED - Follow this blog by clicking on the button on the right panel and leave a comment below letting me know you did so.

2) REQUIRED - Like the Clybourne Park Facebook page and leave this comment on their wall: "I'm looking forward to seeing Clybourne Park and hopefully winning tickets on Awesome in New York! http://bit.ly/x5eQua" Then come back here and leave a comment letting me know you did so.
